Renovating an Older Property? Modern Convenience Without Sacrificing old Style Charm.

You don’t need to choose between character and comfort in older buildings

Over the years, new developments in the screed technology have allowed us to address a wide variety of challenges, ranging from levelling and flattening substrates to installing ultra thin screed layers in problematic areas. The following case study illustrates the importance of selecting the right screed system and adopting industry best practices for the successful completion of a screeding project.

Located four miles away from Wantage, Oxfordshire, the village of Lyford is a small paradise, with quiet streets, a beautiful traditional church, and gorgeously picturesque houses and cottages. Lying in this wonderful setting, a beautiful cottage with attractive architecture has been recently renovated.

Keeping an eye on the future, the owners of the property wanted to combine traditional building materials with modern enhancements to improve comfort and reduce energy consumption.

With that in mind, the main contractor, Kingerlee Ltd. — a reliable builder committed to excellence, professionalism, and integrity since 1868 — hired us to lay a floor screed over an area of 345sq.m, on top of previously installed insulation and UFH pipes. Though our screeders have a lot of experience, the project was quite an undertaking, considering the strict specifications and high standards expected.

Since we have tested a wide variety of screed formulations over many years, we decided to select one of our most reliable fast drying screeds. Among other advantages, our fast drying screed allows the installation of final floor finishes after only 3 days up to 21 days, depending on its thickness, provides stable performance in UFH, and can be installed in large bays in one operation. Our screeders applied a 75mm fibre-reinforced screed layer to the entire area in one day, without having any reason for concern about cracking and curling. Needless to say, they did a wonderful job.
