CSC lays the screed for the breath-taking Island Pavilion at Wormsley

After the Bluff Chinnor, DragonWyck, Temple House Marlow and a series of Grade-II listed cottages, the latest in CSC’s repertoire of iconic home projects is the Island Pavilion project on the Getty family’s Wormsley Park Estate.

Wormsley Park Estate in Buckinghamshire is the former home of philanthropist Sir Paul Getty who transformed the 2500 acre private estate into an idyllic retreat with its very own cricket pitch, lake and a private island.

Following in his footsteps, his son and successor Mark Getty is making further additions to the panoramic landscape with a 600 seat opera house and a modernist Island Pavilion overlooking the Opera House.

The 150 m2 Island Pavilion is a fully insulated year-round building made from high quality stainless steel, sliding double glass panels and a terrazzo floor.

CSC carried out the screeding for 120 m2 of the floor area on behalf of principal clients Mace Group Ltd. Considering the specifications, performance and quality requirements for the terrazzo floors, CSC decided to use fast drying floor screed FlexiDry Universal with a drying time of 7 days. The screed was laid at a thickness of 70 mm in steel cassettes laid in steel piled foundation.

The Pavilion was opened in June 2014, and it will serve as a year round entertainment venue for the family and will be hired out as the most prestigious and exclusive venue on the estate for receptions, music recitals and art exhibitions. The pavilion’s dining room now features the stainless Cracked Egg sculpture by Jeff Koons which completes the look of the sleek steel and glass pavilion.
